Huel – A great food to travel with!

One issue I have when traveling is not having food easily available. And yes, I highly recommend getting out and trying the local food, but when you are on location for weeks at a time and constantly changing where you sleep each night, it can be expensive or difficult to keep things refrigerated. This is where Huel comes in.

Huel is described as “a nutritionally complete food that contains all the proteins, carbs, and fats you need, plus at least 100% of the FDA’s “Daily Values” of all 27 essential vitamins and minerals.” It’s basically a liquid meal that is easy to make and fast to clean up.

While the base of Huel doesn’t have the best flavor in the world, I treat it as exactly that…a base. The flavor of the base is basically a liquid oatmeal. But like basic oatmeal, if you add some fruit or some additives, you can get a much better taste. The company even offers some “flavor powder” to help with this. They send you a shaker to use, but the preferred way to make it is a blender.

Huel is 100% vegan (better for the environment and animals), super convenient, high in protein (148g per 2,000 calories) and fiber (35g), contains under 5 grams of sugar per 2,000 calories (no added sugar), requires minimal packaging and has a shelf-life of 12 months (zero food waste).

Here’s the basic recipe that I find allows me to get what I need, but not LOVE the taste.

3 Scoops Huel (Unsweetened or Vanilla)

300 Ml of Almond Milk

200 Ml of water

Flavor powder added for flavor

Shake as hard as you can…it doubles as a workout!

And when I have a blender and access to fruit…

3 Scoops Huel (Unsweetened or Vanilla)

300 ML of Almond Milk

200 ML of water

Fresh or Frozen Fruit

Blend.

And the BEST way to make Huel is the night before. Blend it, pour it into the shaker bottle and place it in the fridge. Letting it sit overnight and getting chilled makes it something I really look forward to in the morning.
