EXPLORE NYC VIA CITIBIKE

One of my favorite ways to get around NYC is by using the bike share program, Citibike. I have been using the program for a few months now and it has been an absolute joy. I have not only saved a lot of money, but I have even lost weight riding. And for someone who really struggles with using the gym, this has become a great way for me to get where I am going and getting a little workout in as well.

If you are visiting NYC, I highly recommend getting a day pass and exploring.

Beginner tips!

Tip 1: As a day pass member, you will only have 30 minutes at a time to ride. After, you will need to return the bike to a dock and pick up a new one after a 2 minute hold period. So make sure you know where the destination dock is before you start. Use the app!

Tip 2: Don’t pick up your first bike in midtown. I know when I first started riding, it was scary! Cars and people everywhere. I highly suggest going to the outside of the city by one of the rivers. There you will find bike paths where you can get used to the bike.

Tip 3: Set an alarm! You will be charged if you go over your time limit. So make sure you have enough time to get the bike docked before that happens.

Tip 4: Stay on the bike paths. The city has many designated bike paths that will make your ride more comfortable.

And lastly, if you are enjoying the bike and live in the city, make sure to sign up for the BikeAngels.

Bike Angels allows you to earn points when you ride and you will be awarded free day passes, free week extensions and if you really go crazy, you can earn $$$! Currently, I have earned enough points that I have extended my account to a point where I should never have to pay for membership again. It’s also super fun! If you are like me, and enjoy games more than working out, this mixes the two things together.
